A huge favorite event in Jefferson Township, located in Morris County, New Jersey is the Jefferson Township 5K Race/Walk, fondly known as the “Wrobo Run.”
The Wrobo Run was named after Oak Ridge resident Second Lieutenant John Thomas (JT) Wroblewski, who succumbed to injuries sustained while battling in Ramadi, Iraq on April 6, 2004. JT joined the Marines only days after the 9/11 attacks, determined to make a difference in the world. He left behind his mom and dad, Shawn and John, along with three younger brothers, his widow and a huge slew of family and friends.
Hosted by the Jefferson Township Junior Women’s Club (JWCJT), the run starts at the Municipal Building on Weldon Road and winds through the scenic roads of the Milton section. The proceeds of this year’s race will benefit The Seeing Eye.
Since 1929, The Seeing Eye has partnered with people who are blind who seek to enhance their independence, dignity and self-confidence through the use of seeing eye dogs. More than 15,500 of these specially bred and trained dogs have brought a new level of mobility, safety and self-sufficiency to over 8,000 men and women.
The JWCJT also contributes to our Jefferson Township High School graduates’ pursuit of higher education. Twenty percent of the proceeds from this event will go toward our high school scholarship award, an award that honors graduating students who have displayed an extraordinary level of civic dedication via volunteer efforts throughout their lives, along with exceptional academic achievement.
This year’s 5K will be held on Sunday, October 6, 2013 and begins promptly at 9:00 am, rain or shine. Registration starts at 7:30 am.
I always LOVE running this race and am proud to say I came in second in my age group last year! Okay, so my time was OVER my target of under :30 at 31:12, but there’s always this year!
You can register for the race online at www.active.com.
If you have questions regarding the race, you can feel free to contact me at 201-240-8699. Pre-registration is $25 and Race Day is a bargain-at-twice-the-price $30. It really is a fantastic event with an added bonus of boasting a USATF certified course. How great is that???
Here’s some photos from past year’s Wrobo Run.
Hope to see you there!
